RM4/BrightSide Merge

Posted by hcs on June 2, 2015

RM4 and BrightSide no longer appear as 2 separate systems!

We are in the process of re-writing RM4 from the ground up using modern technologies to make our software more secure, stable, and easier to maintain and improve. These new parts of the software have been in the "BrightSide" portion of the software, which has previously been entirely separate from RM4. Today we're updating RM4 and BrightSide to bring a more unified experience.

The Menu

RM4 and BrightSide now share a single menu that is shown no matter what screen you're on. You'll no longer have to search for items only found in one of the menus or click on "Back to RM4" after viewing a maintenance issue.

We also took this opportunity to rearrange the menus some. Without changing things too drastically, we've tried to organize all of the menus in a standard with the most used items on top followed by reports and then the less used setup items at the bottom. While we still feel there is much room for improvement we hope that this will be a step in the right direction in making it quicker and faster to find what you're looking for.

Finally, several reports no longer open in a new tab, and instead open in the main window. This will allow you to run reports in a new tab without erasing your report options in the main tab.

Session Timeout

Have you ever come back to your computer after a break and clicked on something only to be redirected to the login screen? BrightSide will now alert you when your session is about to time out and pop up a dialog to allow you to renew your session.

The Future

Just because RM4 and BrightSide share a common interface now doesn't mean we're done with the transition. Many screens still require Firefox and mobile devices still aren't supported. In the coming months, we will be working on making BrightSide work on any browser as well as any screen size.
